Osteoarthritis: What is it and what can we do about it?

What is Osteoarthritis? Well, the best place to begin is a simple definition: Osteoarthritis is a breakdown of cartilage in one or more joints and that is what can lead to the inflammation. Osteoarthritis isn’t an inflammatory disease but one of the symptoms is joint inflammation, because of cartilage breakdown. Normally, osteoarthritis develops slowly. You’ll start to feel a bit feel sore or stiff. In general, women tend to develop symptoms earlier than men, however, since osteoarthritis is simply the breaking down of cartilage, through years of wear and tear many people will eventually feel the effects of this. Often, you will hear of women taking Calcium supplements, this is due to bone loss and hormonal changes found with Menopause. The pain and discomfort can be ignored for a while and then you realize it cannot be ignored and you need to do something.

So, what do you do? Without invasive surgery, your Chiropractor can help! Your Dr. of Chiropractor can help by giving regular adjustments, which aligns the joints. By aligning your joints, you are able to minimize inflammation and improper body mechanics that can lead to the breakdown of cartilage…and…PAIN! Ouch!
